This image is entitled “how to find what you’re looking for.” This is the next place I’d like my work to go—in search of missing parts. In relating to my environment, I see the need to constantly fill in the gaps that inevitably appear. This image is a nice reminder that those fill-ins can be messy. Often times, I think they’re more relatable and more immediate if they’re not so tidied up. For me, the pair being completed by a mirror is almost a better completion than finding the other sock, because it reminds me that the pair can be lost again just as easily. I understand my tendency to tie things up and I don’t mind it so much, but I think I need to know where to stop. And also how to set up structures that allow me to keep going. The structure of 2 implies an impending imbalance—that things are constantly shifting in and out of togetherness. I think this cycle can be generative and I hope to use it to keep me going.
